<image:title>Domaine Yves Cheron - Domaine Yves Cheron</image:title>
<image:caption>Burgundian Yves Cheron graduated from the Lycée Viticole in Beaune in 1983 and headed south the following year to assume control of the family’s new domaine in the Southern Rhône. His father, Denis Cheron, saw the untapped potential in some of the region’s lesser-known appellations back in the early 1960s and left Burgundy to set up shop in this sun-baked sub-region of Provence. Denis purchased a production facility in Vacqueyras and began vinifying wines for several area growers. It wasn’t long before he had earned the trust and friendship of his client-vignerons. In 1982, one of them, the heirless owner of Grand Montmirail in Gigondas, decided to retire and gave Denis right of first refusal to buy his domaine in the appellation’s southeast sector. Since taking over for his father, Yves has expanded the family’s vineyard holdings into neighboring Beaumes de Venise and Vacqueyras and now produces an impressive line of pure, elegantly-structured, Grenache-based reds without the rustic characteristics so common in wines from this region. All of the domaine’s vines are on gently-sloping hillsides at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range. Yves has also established long-term grape contracts with like-minded growers in Sarrians, Seguret and Violes for another 60 acres, which he uses for his Côtes du Rhône. Yves monitors each parcel and decides when to harvest. He then vinifies this excellent value red in the same manner as his Gigondas and Vacqueyras. http://www.vignoblescheron.fr/en/welcome?lang_code=en</image:caption>

<image:title>Andrea Oberto - Andrea Obrerto</image:title>
<image:caption>The Andrea Oberto winery has humble origins. Everything began in 1959 when the Oberto family bought a farmhouse in La Morra. At that time, the farmers couldn’t survive with just one crop, therefore, they earned a living growing peaches and grapes and raising cows. Everybody had to contribute to the upkeep of the family so the children took part in the family business from when they were teenagers. However, when the farmer’s children became adults, they often had to leave home in order to look for a job elsewhere because there wasn’t enough work for everyone in the family business. This is the reason why Andrea, a second generation family member, at a certain point in his life, decided to leave La Morra to start working for a big company as a truck driver. In 1978 Andrea’s father died unexpectedly. He inherited the family land and began managing the farm. He decided to leave his job in the big company and dedicate the rest of his life to the vineyards he had worked in for so many years. Over the years, the demand for high quality wine increased and this encouraged many farmers like Andrea to focus solely on growing grapes. By devoting all of his time and energy in order to realize his dream, Andrea transformed a small farm into a wine company with sixteen hectares as well as a wine production of 100,000 bottles of prestigious wine which is currently sold all over the world. https://www.andreaoberto.it/EN</image:caption>

<image:caption>Cyril Audoin is part of the next generation from renowned winemaking families, and his energetic, outgoing personality is a refreshing counterpoint to wines that are among the most serious in their appellation. Cyril’s father, Charles, was a visionary in the Burgundy region, as he’d already selected and vinified the best parcels in the 1970s, before Marsannay was even an appellation. He and his wife, Marie-Françoise, an oenologist, began their domaine in Marsannay-la-Cote, in 1972. Cyril is the fifth generation to join the family business. He continues his parents’ commitment to producing fine red, white and rosé Marsannays, primarily from single vineyards, that are well-structured and wonderfully mineral.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gouffier - Gouffier</image:title>
<image:caption>When Frédéric Gueugneau was growing up in the village of Fontaines, he would often work at the Gouffier estate under the direction of Jerome Gouffier. Years later, when Gouffier fell ill, Frédéric came home once again to lend a helping hand by managing the day-to-day operations of the estate. When his elder neighbor passed away, Frédéric was asked by the Gouffier family to assume control of the domaine in 2011. The nearly 200-year old estate had been through several name changes throughout its history, but had always remained a part of the extended Gouffier lineage. The property oozes history, as evidenced by its stunning, stone-domed cellar, which had once served as a bunker in the time of Napoleon Bonaparte. With 5.5-hectares spread across eight appellations, the domaine was in need of a fresh start. Frédéric, who had worked previously at La Chabliesienne for eight years, took about the task of reinvigorating the vines of Gouffier by instituting organic farming practices. While there are no vineyards in Fontaines—which sits between the villages of Mercurey and Rully—the varied sites throughout the area allow Frédéric and his partner, Benoit Pagot, to offer several expressions of Cote Chalonnaise. The domaine contracts a single cooper—Doreau Tonneliers of Cognac—with Thierry Doreau making several trips to aid Frédéric and Benoit in finding the perfect match between barrel and wine. In fact, nearly 20% of the wood used to make the barrels used in the cellar come from the forest just beyond the walls of the property. Recent vintages of Gouffier have reflected the intelligent approach of infusion, demonstrating perfect balance, a flawless integration of ageing, resulting in wines of energy and precision which have garnered attention and accolades in France. https://www.gouffier.fr/</image:caption>

<image:title>Henri Marionnet - Henri Marionnet</image:title>
<image:caption>The Marionnet family has owned the Domaine de la Charmoise since 1850. The winery is nestled in the village of Soings, 30 km south of Blois, deep in the forests of La Sologne. Here, the vines benefit from a mild climate and their unique situation, resting at the highest point between the Loire and Cher rivers. This ensures excellent maturity of the grapes and provides shelter against spring frosts. The vineyards of the domaine were replanted and expanded between 1967 and 1978 by Henry Marionnet, who became a renowned figure in the region in the 1960s. One of the first producers to make truly honest Gamay here during a time of over-production, Henry had a very clear vision and style that carries through to this day. His plantings cover nearly 150 acres of Gamay and Sauvignon Blanc. Henry’s son, Jean-Sébastien, has been working with his father since he was 10, and he has now taken over, bringing a new perspective to the estate. The Marionnet range has expanded to include Côt (Malbec) and Chenin Blanc, as well as some of the rarest varietals of the Loire, if not the entire world. Many of these vines are own-rooted, having been grafted from pre-phylloxera cuttings. The Premiere Vendage is a Gamay bottled without sulfur. The Provignage is made from ungrafted, 160-year-old Romorantin vines, planted before phylloxera. The Cépages Oubliés is made from the nearly obsolete clone of Gamay de Bouze. Jean-Sébastien continues his father’s practices and vision, using neither chemicals, nor oak, and producing wines that are tasty, bright and fresh — a great glass of wine at a great value. https://henry-marionnet.com/en/</image:caption>

<image:caption>Louis Métaireau — along with his band of vignerons d’art, as his like-minded group of producers were known — was instrumental in restoring the reputation of the Muscadet appellation in the middle of the 20th century. It was he who first began leaving his wines sur lie (on their fine lees) through the winter. Since taking over for her father, Marie-Luce Métaireau and her husband, Jean-François Guilbaud, have illustrated their deep love of the land by reclaiming the vineyards of the vignerons d’art and piecing them back together to compose one of the most prized sites in all of Muscadet: the Grand Mouton vineyard. The 23-acre vineyard in the heart of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine enjoys perfect exposure between the two famed rivers that lend their names to the AOC, and ranges in vine age from 30 years old to a parcel planted in 1937. The vines are tended organically, and everything is harvested by hand — a rarity in this region, where 98% of all grapes are machine-harvested, and conventional farming with chemicals is the norm. Marie-Luce’s charming, bright personality is reflected in the wines she produces. Petit Mouton, from the “young” vines (35 years old), is very mineral and precise. Black Label, from slightly older vines, is the most classic example of the terroir in the lineup, with more depth. Grand Mouton is harvested later than the Black Label and has richness to pair with the minerality. Cuvée One, from the parcel planted in 1937, shows amazing depth and complexity, and is capable of long aging. https://www.muscadet-grandmouton.com/</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rising as a pillar of quality out of the soils of Gigondas is Domaine Santa Duc—an estate that’s history stretches back to 1874. Through five generations, the caretakers of the domaine have demonstrated a respect for the land, with Santa Duc ascending to prominence as a pioneer of organic viticulture in the region under the care of its indomitable vigneron, Yves Gras. The wines cultivated by Gras typify classic Gigondas—elegant, focused, polished. In his 32 years at the helm, Gras has branched out to nearby Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Rasteau, creating wines of exceptional balance and quality. Gras seamlessly integrates fruit born from two distinct soil types into harmonious cuvees that are representative of the unique terroir of the Southern Rhone Valley. In working only with indigenous yeasts and bottling without filtration, Gras executes with a simplicity that leads to purity of expression in his wines. With the 2017 vintage, Gras’ son, Benjamin, has assumed the helm of Domaine Santa Duc, making his mark immediately with the introduction of biodynamic farming techniques and the construction of a new winemaking facility on the property. https://www.santaduc.fr/en/</image:caption>

<image:caption>When the Niepoort family moved from Holland to the Duoro region of Portugal in 1842, the rise of one of the great Port houses of Oporto began. And in 1997, as the fifth generation to make fortified wines for the family business, Dirk Niepoort began a brand new rise. Considered a true Renaissance man, Dirk continues to make Port using the same traditional methods as his ancestors, while also leading the way as one of Portugal’s most innovative, creative and exciting producers of dry table wine. Dirk started making table wine because, well, he likes to drink table wine. As it turns out, he is rather good at it. During the past 25 years, Dirk has put both the family estate and the entire region on the map for wine. He is a pioneer of modern approaches—creating artistic labels and new marketing and selling practices—but with a healthy respect for traditional, classic methods of winemaking. Niepoort spares no expense in creating wines that match their high-quality Port siblings. https://www.niepoort-vinhos.com/en/</image:caption>

<image:title>Laporte - Laporte</image:title>
<image:caption>Domaine Laporte is the result of a perfect blending of two renowned Sancerre families. Founded in 1850 in the village of Saint-Satur, Domaine Laporte was run until 1986 by René Laporte. A visionary chair of the Sancerre appellation for 20 years, René was a pioneer in producing low-yield, high-quality Sancerre during a time of overproduction. A well-known winegrower from Chavignol, Henri Bourgeois purchased the domaine from René, keeping the old vineyard, cellar and house – and maintaining the excellent reputation. Now under the watchful eyes of Henri’s two grandsons, Arnaud and Cedric Bourgeois, Domaine Laporte is one of the most highly respected estates in the Loire Valley. It holds more than 74 acres, and the flagship Sancerre comes from one of the finest vineyards in the appellation, Domaine du Rochoy, a 25-acre monopole vineyard carved out of the flint hillside overlooking the Loire River. Typically one of the first sites picked in the appellation, Rochoy offers grapes with wonderful ripeness and incredible mineral expression from Silex soils, the rarest terroir in Sancerre. Laporte is a certified organic producer and the wine here is made in a very traditional, natural way, employing organic methods and always ensuring a sense of purity and excellence. In addition to Sancerre, Laporte produces beautiful Pouilly-Fume, Quincy and Chateaumeillant. Laporte also produces three wines under the Le Bouquet label: the floral and citrus-scented Sauvignon Blanc, a Cabernet-Franc offering fresh red fruits and soft hints of spice, and a fruity Pinot Noir rosé. Made with very high-quality fruit, these are versatile wines – a great value and a perfect introduction to the wines of the Loire Valley and the style of Laporte.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Brent Marris grew up on some of the very first vineyards in Marlborough, planted by his father, pioneering Marlborough viticulturist John Marris. Driven by a love of viticulture and winemaking instilled in his teens, Brent was the first local Marlborough lad to become a qualified winemaker. In 1994 as a young winemaker, he founded Wither Hills with his father. Eight years later, the brand had grown dramatically and was sold to to multi-national beverage company Lion Nathan. Brent continued as managing director and chief winemaker until 2007. Marisco Vineyards was conceived in 2003, when Brent began his search for a special vineyard property to provide a base for his next venture. This time, the aim was to establish a family legacy that would last for generations. Tapping into this deep well of knowledge, Brent selected a number of outstanding local sites as base for a venture to create his own family legacy – Marisco Vineyards. In 2012, Brent Marris acquired Leefield Station, a historic beef & sheep station that he was intimately familiar with from his childhood. Leefield lies in the southern, upper reaches of the Waihopai Valley on northfacing slopes. The Marisco Team are developing substantial vineyards, but most of the 2300ha property will continue to run as a livestock farm. So far, 400ha of the property has been converted into vineyards, with 250ha more planned over the next few years. Leefield is primarily planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Large parts of Leefield comprise of a glacial valley filled with mineral-rich soil and beautiful rolling foothills. The area has consistently high diurnal differences, coupled with a complex diversity of soil types and mesoclimates. https://www.marisco.co.nz/shop/LeefieldStation/x_cat/00321.html#</image:caption>

<image:title>Peake Ranch - Peake Ranch</image:title>
<image:caption>Peake Ranch Winery is named after artist and avid rancher Channing Peake, whose family owned the property known as Rancho Jabali until Richard Sanford bought the property in 1982. In 2013, half of the property which includes the landmark Sanford tasting shack, was purchased by John and Gill Wagner and is now Peake Ranch. An oil painting by Peake hangs in the tasting room. The Wagners have a deep love and connection with the Santa Barbara wine country and are committed to achieving the ultimate expression of what the region can acheive. This commitment is evident in the team they have put in place. Winemaker Wynne Solomon brings her meticulous attention to detail in winemaking along with experience working with Paul Loto, Melville and Stephen Ross Winery. Vineyard manager Mike Anderson’s talents & experience are second to none. He served as a researcher, author and educator at UC Davis for 30+ years where he was also the vineyard manager for the University’s legendary Oakville Station. All Peake Ranch wines are from the winery’s three estate vineyards: Peake Ranch, John Sebastiano and Sierra Madre Vineyards - totaling 370 planted acres. While the majority of the fruit is sold, the best plots are destined for the Peake Ranch bottle. Peake Ranch Vineyard is located on the eastern end of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA on Santa Rosa Road, Peake Ranch is a 105-acre parcel with 50 acres of vines. The plantings include seven different clones of Pinot Noir, three clones of Chardonnay and two each of Syrah and Grenache. The plantings are all along a hill that covers most of the ranch, exposing the vines to the cool air that comes off the Pacific and into the Santa Ynez Valley. The combination of North, South, East and West facing slopes coupled with the exposure to varying degrees of the cool wind give the vineyard a diversity of fruit flavor profiles that is unique for a ranch of this size. John Sebastiano Vineyard is located on the eastern edge of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. The raised elevation of this vineyard exposes this spot to an extra dose of the winds that the appellation is famous for. Cool nights and constant wind make for grapes that show great concentration and lend themselves to the magic of gifted winemaker Wynne Solomon, yielding extraordinary wines. Sierra Madre is located on the western side of the Santa Maria Valley. The Vineyard benefits from cool summers. The block the wines come from is a south-facing hillside comprised of sandy, well-drained soil. The Robert Young clones that grow here take advantage of the spot to become both fully ripe and at the same time retain a high level of acidity. https://www.peakeranch.com/</image:caption>

Our boutique production demonstrates local subtleties and true local terroir. Thacher takes great pride in the way they craft their wines, our estate viticulture practices and the vineyards we source from. The non-estate vineyards align with our philosophes and deliver exceptional fruit that will highlight the specific and unique terroir of their microclimates and soil makeups. Thacher strives to make elegant wines with more nuance than sheer power. They utilize diverse varietals from exceptional vineyards in Paso Robles, Santa Barbara and Monterey Counties. With minimal intervention the wines are balanced between fruit, acid and tannins, with more emphasis on the inconsistencies of the growing seasons and the unpredictability of harvest rather than producing a standardized product. These wines are genuine in this pursuit and care what is in every bottle. https://www.thacherwinery.com/</image:caption>
